The condition score

One number. Nothing hidden.

Every bag is graded the same way: seven categories, each inspected and scored on its own, then averaged into a single honest number from 1 to 10.

Seven categories, one method.

Before a piece is ever listed, we go over it by hand. Each of seven areas is examined up close and scored on its own, from 1 to 10. Not a single glance and a gut feeling, but a deliberate read of exactly what is there.

Nothing is smoothed over, and nothing is averaged away before it has been looked at properly.

What we inspect.

01

Exterior

The outer material across every panel, whether leather, canvas or coated fabric. Scuffs, scratches, staining, discolouration and dryness.

02

Interior

The lining and inner pockets. Stains, marks, traces of odour, pen or makeup transfer, and any wear to the structure.

03

Leather parts

Trim, piping and leather details. Patina, darkening, dryness, cracking and wear along the edges.

04

Handles / Strap

The parts touched most. Darkening, softening, cracking, stretch, and the stitching at the anchor points.

05

Hardware

Zippers, clasps, feet, rings and logo plates. Scratches, tarnishing, plating loss and how smoothly everything runs.

06

Corners

The first place a bag shows its life. Rubbing, abrasion, exposed edges and any softening of the shape.

07

Smell & Feel

How the bag presents in the hand, including any odour, stickiness or residue a photograph can never show.

The final score

Seven scores, weighted equally.

No single area is allowed to flatter the rest, and no single flaw is allowed to sink it. The overall grade is the straight average of all seven, and it is the number you see on every listing.

The scale.

Where a bag's average places it on the ten-point scale:

Pristine

10 – 9.5

Like new. Never used or only briefly tried; original packaging and accessories where applicable.

Excellent

9 – 8.5

Barely worn. No visible signs of use under normal inspection; structure, hardware, and finish in superb shape.

Very good

8 – 6

Light signs of use. Minor handling marks possible; overall structure and finish remain in excellent condition.

Good

5.5 – 4

Visible signs of regular wear. Honest patina; remains in solid, presentable condition.

Fair

3.5 – 0

Noticeable wear and possible imperfections. A lived-in piece with character rather than polish.
